If you are planning a ski vacation and this is the first time on the slopes, you may learn to love it or decide the sun is a better sport for you. When packing for the cold there are some necessities you will have to bring.
When deciding on the best resorts remember to check on the other activities available in the area. Restaurants are not always available close to the lodge so if you want to eat out make sure some place will be close enough to get to. Do not forget to wear a leather watch for keeping track of appointments. If you have an instruction class scheduled, many instructors will not wait for those who show up late.
Pack items that can be worn in a layered fashion. Sweaters and long sleeve shirts are a must for the snow. Also pack a couple pairs of thermal underwear to stay warm and protected against snow and wind. Purchase socks that are water resistant, they can be found in the sports department of most stores. Remember to pack a pair of women’s brown boots for keeping feet warm.
The temperatures fluctuate on the slopes so clothing should be worn in layers. If you get too bundled up and begin to sweat it will feel warmer than you really are, so do not remove too many layers at first. Always keep your jacket on, but if you get too hot remove a sweater and only wear a long sleeve shirt and coat.
When shopping for the best jacket, look for those that are down filled. They will keep you warm without to much heat. If you are not planning on frequent ski trips avoid buying a jacket just for this purpose. They can get expensive and a nice well made everyday winter coat will do the trick. The coat should not be loose, it has to fit snug for keeping out the wind.
You will also need to wear a hat to cover the exposed areas of your face. Keeping your face covered will protect you from wind burn. Also pack sun glasses or goggles, Chap Stick to protect your lips and the Lancome eye cream is great for keeping the area around your eyes protected from the wind.
Skis can usually be rented in case you do not own a pair as can other necessities such as a pole. Check ahead of time to make sure the resort you are going to offers rentals. Many places also offer sledding or snowboarding if you prefer not to ski.
Remember to pack a good book to take with you. If you decide that you really are not going to be happy falling in the cold snow, you can opt to spend the day inside the lodge sitting in front of the fire enjoying the book you have been anxious to read.
